OUR VOLUNTEERS

♥ Amy Guthrie, Volunteer

I have the fun job of shopping for and delivering the Friday surprise box goodies for the Pediatric Radiation Oncology department at Children's Hospital.

I make sure the children (and sometimes their siblings) who are going through radiation treatments have a box full of fun prizes to choose from each week. After a long week of treatment, when most of these kids are feeling worn out, it is so nice to know we can put a smile on their face or give them something to look forward to.

We bring anything from toys and games to gift cards and t-shirts. Some of the older kids like to save up the gift cards and go buy something they have been wanting and the girls love the jewelry. I have so enjoyed working with Dr. Liu and his nurse, Amy, and love it when I get requests for that something special that will help make the day a little brighter for a little one who has had a particularly bad week.

I feel like it is such a little thing I do, but when I get the e-mail about the patient who smiled on Friday, then I realize that is why I do my small part to help.

♥ Kathy Bergstrom, Volunteer

I have been involved with the GKF since its inception. Gabby was a special little girl and I feel blessed that I was able to be a part of her much too short life. I am proud to be a part of the foundation that makes her wish for other children come true. My main function for the GKF is to make a weekly trip to Razzle Toys to get the bags that will be delivered to the children that week. It is fulfilling to be a part of the process, but also heartbreaking especially on the weeks when there are a lot of bags, signifying many new children requiring hospital treatments. I am thankful for all who contribute to make the GKF a success and put smiles on faces of the children.
